If I had not shown you the reference photo for "Autumn Country Lane," you would have believed that the lovely autumnal scene was somewhere in the country. The original title I thought of for the painting was "Autumn Day on Golf Course" because that was exactly what it was! Do you see two golfers on the right?
I took the photo last week while I was taking a walk just outside of the nearby public golf course when I saw three trees with different colors--gold, green, and maroon--arranged in a pleasing composition. The two gentlemen were supposed to go into the picture, but as it progressed, it became clear that they would detract rather than enhance the mellow and sunny mood of the painting.
I lost the potential market for the painting: art-loving golfers. But, hey, what's more important--profit or beauty?
